I think stuffing is about one of the best things going in a turkey dinner. I never saw Mom or Grandma using a recipe for stuffing – but this is the one I roughly follow. Homemade bread is good for stuffing, also using part whole wheat. Sometimes I buy the “stuffing bread” that they make at the supermarket bakeshop around holiday times – a fellow shopper tipped me off to it years ago. It has seasoning baked into it, and I still add some more, but not as much as with plain bread.

Old Fashioned Bread Stuffing
Ingredients
- 8 - 10 cups stale bread cubes
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 cup chopped celery with leaves
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 2 teaspoons poultry seasoning or any mixture of sage, savory, thyme, marjoram, etc.
- Hot broth or water
Instructions
- For a soft moist dressing, use fresh or slightly stale bread. For a lighter fluffier dressing, use quite stale or dried bread.
- Melt butter in a frying pan. Add onion and celery, and cook until softened but not browned.
- Combine butter mixture with breadcrumbs and seasonings.
- If desired add some broth or water for a moister dressing.
- Stuff the turkey, and roast.
- Makes enough for an 8 to 10 pound turkey.

Hi The recipe sounds good. I might have missed it, but what temp do you bake this at. Thank you
The recipe is for stuffing, to be placed in your turkey and roasted along with it. If you wanted to make it as a dressing instead, place in a greased casserole dish and bake at 325 degrees F for 45-60 minutes.
