June 2000 – Pasta – my favorite dish! I could make a steady diet of it. Nothing could be easier than putting together some pasta with a sauce concocted from whatever you have on hand – dinner will be ready in no time at all.
And not only can you vary your sauce ingredients as you wish, there are also many shapes and sizes of pasta you can choose from. Many of the recipes here have a suggested pasta, but you can substitute whatever type you like. I always have a few varieties of dried pastas on hand. Fresh pasta is great too, and only requires a couple minutes of cooking time.
To get you started, here are some of my favorite sauce recipes!
What could be better than homemade spaghetti and meatballs?
Tasty meat sauce made with crumbled Italian sausage – use hot or sweet Italian sausage as you prefer.
This recipe replaces heavy cream with evaporated milk and cornstarch to thicken, for a lower fat sauce that is still high in flavor.
Hearty pasta sauce combines crumbled Italian sausage, ground beef and mushrooms with tomatoes.
Why choose pasta or chili? Now enjoy them both at the same time!
Penne with a creamy spinach and walnut sauce is different and delicious.
A quick and easy lower fat pasta sauce.
Pesto sauce made without the oil is still very delicious!
Garden fresh tomatoes are so delicious. Let the fresh taste shine through by just tossing them with pasta, herbs and some Parmesan cheese.
If you have an abundance of fresh tomatoes, make and freeze your own tomato sauce ready to use in the winter when tomatoes aren’t so fresh.
This is a great recipe to make and freeze when the tomatoes are fresh from the garden – whether you grow them yourself or buy them at the farmers’ market.
