Brown Sugar Spice Cake

  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups light brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla


  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Combine flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder and spices.
  • In mixer bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar. Beat in eggs.
  • Remove beaters. Fold in the flour mixture in thirds, alternately with milk and vanilla, until smoothly blended. Don't overstir.
  • Spread batter in a greased 9 inch square pan. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until top of cake springs back when touched lightly. Cool.
