Bread Machine Saffron Bread

Bread Machine Recipes | 11 comments

I remember a bread my Grandma used to make when I was a kid. It was called saffron bread – it was yellow and had raisins. My Dad and I really liked it – toasted with butter and honey. I asked my Mom and my Aunt if they had the recipe or knew how to make this bread but they did not. Finally I found a book of historic recipes from England and I was able to develop this bread machine version – it sure gives me a taste of home!

This is the first time I’ve baked with saffron. This is delicious. Absolutely delicious. Just had two slices smothered in butter. You have to try it.

I just made a Seafood Saffron Soup. That was my first time using saffron. My husband had four bowls of it! It was a hit! I’m making the bread now. I also made a beef stew between the soup and bread and added saffron. It was another hit! I love this spice.

Excellent recipe. I make buns instead of bread from this recipe
and they look and taste like what my Grandmother made when
I was a child. I use bread flour.

How much kneading should I do if I don’t have a bread
machine. I love your recipe but have to do it all by hand.
I tried this recipe once and they came out stiff instead of soft.
    Any hints?
